CreekWood  3 and 4 Weight

CreekWood, available in either 3 or 4 line weight, is the perfect fly rod for smaller spring creeks.  The action of CreekWood is medium to medium-fast.  To keep weight to a minimum, it has a skeleton cork cigar-shaped grip with a nickel-silver pocketed butt cap and aluminum slide band.  Standard silk color is dark blue with yellow tipping (other colors available as well).  The rods are 2-piece with 2 matching tip sections.  Each comes with a flannel rod sock, ferrule plug, and an aluminum tube.  If desired, we can add your name to the rod for no additional charge.  Sizes and pricing are as follows:

3-Weight:  6'6", 2 sections, 2 matching tips - $950

4-Weight:  7'0", 2 sections, 2 matching tips - $950

StreamWood  5 and 6 Weight

StreamWood may perhaps be the best all-around fly rod.  5 or 6 weight is ideal for most inland trout, bass, and panfish.  The action of these rods is medium, although going up or down a line size can impact the action to better match the owner's casting style.  The reel seat is a down-locking type with a beautiful walnut spacer (photo above is a custom uplocking reel seat).  The handle is cigar-shaped.  Standard silk is green with yellow tipping (other colors available as well).  The rods are 3-piece with 2 matching tip sections.  Each comes with a flannel rod sock, ferrule plugs, and an aluminum tube.  If desired, we can also add your name to the rod for no additional charge.  Sizes and pricing are as follows:

5-Weight:  8'0", 3 sections, 2 matching tips - $1200

6-Weight:  8'6", 3 sections, 2 matching tips - $1200

Restoration

C&G Fly Rods has experience restoring split-cane bamboo fly rods as well.  We can take your old, tired fly rod and make it look like new again.  We can even create artwork and make decals of most manufacturers logos that look identical to the originals.  Prices vary on the restoration work.  Call us with any questions you may have.

Photos showing features of our fly rods

We feature a swelled-butt design on all our bamboo fly rods.  They take a little longer to make right, but we feel it is worth the effort.  It adds both strength and beauty.

Three coats of hand-rubbed spar varnish is applied to the rod blank prior to guide attachment.  Silk thread is used for the whippings with finish applied over the silk only.  We think this gives the rod a more finished, professional appearance.

We select and use only the finest grade of cork for our grips.  Our grips are not store bought - we glue and turn our own.  We offer the cigar-shape as standard on all our rods for a more traditional look, but we can make just about any shape you desire.  Shown here is a CreekWood seat with aluminum slip ring and nickel-silver pocketed butt cap.

Here is a photo of a custom-designed reel seat for a StreamWood.  It features a cigar-shaped grip with a mortised walnut spacer.  The unique uplocking hardware has a formed aluminum hood up front with machined aluminum locking hardware.  Everything you see was designed and made by C&G Fly Rods.

Here is something very few makers offer anymore - a ferrule plug.  We machine ours out of brass with a cork insert that fits in the ferrule.  We provide one or more ferrule plugs with all our rods depending on the number of sections.  It not only adds a touch of class, but it is functional as well - keeping dirt out of the ferrules.

We serial number each fly rod and its sections, and then keep detailed construction records for each rod we make.  This allows for traceability of the bamboo, adhesives, components, etc.
